Ingredients
Yields 4 servings
- (4) large eggs
- (1/4 cups) soy sauce
- (1/4 cups) water
- (2 tbsp) mirin
- (1 tbsp) rice vinegar
- (1 tsp) sugar
- (1 clove) garlic, minced
- (1) green onion, chopped
- (1 tsp) sesame oil
Instructions
- 1
In a small saucepan, combine (1/4 cup) soy sauce, (1/4 cup) water, (2 tbsp) mirin, (1 tbsp) rice vinegar, and (1 tsp) sugar. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves, then remove from heat.
- 2
Add (1 clove) minced garlic and (1 tsp) sesame oil to the marinade mixture and let it cool to room temperature.
- 3
In a saucepan, bring water to a boil and gently add (4) large eggs. Boil for 6-7 minutes for a slightly runny yolk or 9-10 minutes for a firmer yolk.
- 4
Once boiled, transfer the eggs to an ice bath to stop the cooking process and cool for about 5 minutes.
- 5
Peel the cooled eggs and place them in a resealable bag or a small container. Pour the cooled marinade over the eggs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Seal the bag or container and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours for a stronger flavor.
- 6
After marinating, remove the eggs from the marinade and slice in half. Garnish with (1) chopped green onion before serving.
