Ingredients

Servings4

Yields 4 servings

  • (2 lbs) pork shoulder
  • (1 cup) barbecue sauce
  • (1/2 cups) chicken broth
  • (1 tablespoon) brown sugar
  • (1 tablespoon) smoked paprika
  • (1 teaspoon) garlic powder
  • (1 teaspoon) onion powder
  • (1 teaspoon) salt
  • (1/2 teaspoons) black pepper
  • (1/2 teaspoons) cayenne pepper (optional)
  • (4) hamburger buns (for serving)

Instructions

  1. 1

Trim any excess fat from the 2 lbs pork shoulder and place it in the slow cooker.

  2. 2

In a bowl, mix together 1 cup barbecue sauce, 1/2 cup chicken broth, 1 tablespoon brown sugar, 1 tablespoon smoked paprika, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, and 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (if using).

  3. 3

Pour the sauce mixture over the pork shoulder in the slow cooker, ensuring it is well coated.

  4. 4

Cover the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours, until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.

  5. 5

Once cooked, remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.

  6. 6

Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the remaining sauce. Let it warm for an additional 10-15 minutes.

  7. 7

Serve the pulled pork on 4 hamburger buns.
