Ingredients

Servings4

Yields 4 servings

  • (1 lb) ground beef
  • (1/2 cups) onion, finely chopped
  • (1/2 cups) green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • (1 cup) ketchup
  • (1/4 cups) brown sugar
  • (1 tablespoon) Worcestershire sauce
  • (1 teaspoon) mustard
  • (1/2 teaspoons) garlic powder
  • (1/2 teaspoons) salt
  • (1/4 teaspoons) black pepper
  • (4) hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. 1

In a large skillet over medium heat, brown 1 lb ground beef until fully cooked, breaking it apart as it cooks.

  2. 2

Add 1/2 cup finely chopped onion and 1/2 cup finely chopped green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook for about 5 minutes until the vegetables are softened.

  3. 3

Stir in 1 cup ketchup, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon mustard, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon black pepper. Mix well to combine.

  4. 4

Reduce heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.

  5. 5

While the mixture simmers, toast 4 hamburger buns in a toaster or on a skillet until golden brown.

  6. 6

Spoon the Sloppy Joe mixture onto the toasted hamburger buns and serve hot.
