Ingredients

- (8 oz) elbow macaroni
- (2 cups) shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- (1/2 cups) grated Parmesan cheese
- (3 cups) milk
- (1/4 cups) unsalted butter
- (1/4 cups) all-purpose flour
- (1/2 tsp) garlic powder
- (1/2 tsp) onion powder
- (1/2 tsp) mustard powder
- (1/4 tsp) black pepper
- (1/4 tsp) salt
- (1/2 cups) breadcrumbs (optional)

Cook 8 oz elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente, then drain and set aside.

In a large saucepan, melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter over medium heat.

Whisk in 1/4 cup all-purpose flour and cook for 1-2 minutes until bubbly and slightly golden.

Gradually whisk in 3 cups milk and continue to whisk until the mixture thickens, about 5-7 minutes.

Stir in 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp mustard powder, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1/4 tsp salt until the cheese is melted and the sauce is smooth.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until well combined.

If desired, transfer the mac and cheese to a baking dish, sprinkle 1/2 cup breadcrumbs on top, and broil for 2-3 minutes until the breadcrumbs are golden brown.
