Homemade dehydrated strawberry chips on a plate.

Ingredients

Servings4

Yields 4 servings

  • (4 cups) fresh strawberries
  • (1 tablespoon) lemon juice
  • (1 tablespoon) honey (optional)
  • (1/2 teaspoons) cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1

Wash and hull 4 cups of fresh strawberries, removing the green tops and any blemishes.

  2. 2

Slice the strawberries into 1/8-inch thick slices to ensure even drying.

  3. 3

In a bowl, combine the sliced strawberries with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice, and if desired, add 1 tablespoon of honey and 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon. Toss gently to coat the strawberries evenly.

  4. 4

Arrange the strawberry slices in a single layer on a dehydrator tray or a baking sheet lined with parchment paper if using an oven.

  5. 5

If using a dehydrator, set it to 135°F (57 °C) and dehydrate for about 6-8 hours, checking for doneness. The chips should be crisp and break easily when done.

  6. 6

If using an oven, preheat it to the lowest setting (usually around 170°F or 75°C) and place the baking sheet inside. Leave the oven door slightly ajar to allow moisture to escape. Bake for 6-8 hours, checking periodically until the chips are crisp.

  7. 7

Once dehydrated, remove the chips from the dehydrator or oven and let them cool completely before storing.

  8. 8

Store the cooled strawberry chips in an airtight container at room temperature.
