  • (12 oz) pasta (spaghetti or penne)
  • (2 tbsp) olive oil
  • (1) medium onion, chopped
  • (3 cloves) garlic, minced
  • (1 can) (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • (1/2 cups) heavy cream
  • (1/2 tsp) salt
  • (1/4 tsp) black pepper
  • (1/4 tsp) red pepper flakes
  • (1/2 cups) fresh basil, chopped
  • (1/4 cups) grated Parmesan cheese
  • Extra basil leaves for garnish

Instructions

    In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil and cook 12 oz pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.

    In a large skillet, heat 2 tbsp olive oil over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion, chopped, and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.

    Add 3 cloves garlic, minced, to the skillet and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.

    Stir in 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp black pepper, and 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes. Let the sauce simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add 2/4 tsp salt, 2/4 cup fresh basil, chopped, and Extra basil leaves for garnish.

    Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1/2 cup heavy cream. Cook for another 5 minutes until the sauce is heated through and creamy.

    Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss to combine. Stir in 1/2 cup fresh basil, chopped, and 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese until well mixed.
