Yields 4 servings

  • (1 lb) chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • (1 cup) plain yogurt
  • (2 tablespoons) lemon juice
  • (2 teaspoons) garam masala
  • (1 teaspoon) ground cumin
  • (1 teaspoon) ground coriander
  • (1 teaspoon) turmeric
  • (1 teaspoon) paprika
  • (1 teaspoon) salt
  • (1 tablespoon) vegetable oil
  • (1) medium onion, finely chopped
  • (3 cloves) garlic, minced
  • (1) inch ginger, grated
  • (1 can) (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • (1 cup) heavy cream
  • (1 tablespoon) fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. 1

In a bowl, combine 1 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons lemon juice, 2 teaspoons garam masala, 1 teaspoon ground cumin, 1 teaspoon ground coriander, 1 teaspoon turmeric, 1 teaspoon paprika, and 1 teaspoon salt. Mix well.

  2. 2

Add 1 lb chicken breast pieces to the marinade, ensuring they are well coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

  3. 3

In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon vegetable oil over medium heat. Add 1 medium onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes.

  4. 4

Stir in 3 cloves minced garlic and 1 inch grated ginger. Cook for another 2 minutes until fragrant.

  5. 5

Add the marinated chicken to the skillet, cooking until browned on all sides, about 7-10 minutes.

  6. 6

Pour in 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes and bring to a simmer. Cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. 7

Reduce the heat to low and stir in 1 cup heavy cream. Simmer for an additional 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

  8. 8

Garnish with 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro before serving.
