Ingredients

- (1 cup) granulated sugar
- (2) large eggs
- (1 teaspoon) vanilla extract
- (1/4 cups) unsweetened cocoa powder
- (1/2 cups) all-purpose flour
- (1/4 teaspoons) salt
- (1/4 teaspoons) baking powder
- (1/2 cups) chocolate chips (optional)

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175 °C).

Grease a 9x9 inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper.

In a medium saucepan, melt 1/2 cup unsalted butter over low heat.

Remove from heat and stir in 1 cup granulated sugar until combined.

Add 2 large eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in 1 teaspoon vanilla extract.

Mix in 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder, 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1/4 teaspoon baking powder until just combined.

Fold in 1/2 cup chocolate chips if using.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
